Alex Mohr- Director of BandsAlex Mohr is the Director of Bands at Montezuma-Cortez High School where he leads the Marching Panthers, Panther Pep Band, the Symphonic Winds, and the Jazz Ensemble, and additionally teaches elective music courses. Prior to being appointed to this position, he served as Assistant Director of Bands at M-CHS and Montezuma-Cortez Middle School, and taught general music at Lewis-Arriola Elementary School. Under his co-direction, the Marching Panthers and Symphonic Winds have received state and national recognition, and his work with the Jazz Ensemble has garnered praise from local and state jazz festivals
Mr. Mohr received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education in the summer of 2012 from Wright State University (OH) where he studied saxophone with Dr. Shelley Jagow. Among his achievements and activities while studying there was his role as Student Director and Music Arranger for the Raider Pep Band as well as serving as Vice President of Membership for WSU’s upstart chapter of the Kappa Kappa Psi Honorary Band Fraternity. As a member of the WSU Avion Saxophone Quartet, he performed at many regional and national conferences as well as performing a recital of premier commissions at the 2012 World Saxophone Congress in St. Andrews, Scotland. Mr. Mohr went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Music Education from Adams State University in the spring of 2020. He is an active member of the Colorado Bandmasters Association and the National Association for Music Education Outside of his educational commitments, he serves as the Director of the Four Corners Community Band, a concert band composed of local musicians. Prior to starting his teaching career, he served in the United States Air Force as an Avionics Technician. He lives in Cortez with his wife Emily, an M-CMS math teacher, and their children, Sullivan, Elijah, and Brianna. Email Mr. Mohr |
